WHICH IS ONE OF THE REASONS IM PRAYING PZ GETS A MACHINE

so i can play this beautiful game again <3
Paging fubarduck to thread #2415!

PS2 supports component natively. Component has been available since the PS2 was made. It's modded to play imports, of course, but it doesn't affect use of component.

Some say that there is less lag with component, but to be honest, that's sort of a misconception. From what I can tell, some TVs do lag less, but in general, the main reason why TVs lag is that the signal from the PS2 when playing IIDX (or almost any other game) is interlaced, and when a TV de-interlaces and also upscales a signal, it usually isn't instant.

I play on a Sony HDTV CRT, and honestly, I can't even tell if there's lag or not. My scores are about the same (just sometimes the sheer tallness of the screen (compared to my old setup) throws me off).

I use a LCD Panasonic Viera 26" and I have to set the lag offset to +1 on Happy Sky. I also have a 19" Westinghouse LCD that I don't have to adjust at all with Distorted. A lot of it comes down to the amount of Milli-seconds the monitor has for a refresh rate. If you're looking at something under 8ms, then you shouldn't need to adjust your game at all.

Component just makes things look better, and opens you up to HDTV possibilities. =)

I don't think it would be a bad idea to have multiple setups to kind of show how far the game has progressed over the years. From Love or Truth by M-Flo on 3rd style to the Para Para Paradise/Eurobeat craze displayed by 6th style, to the Hardcore artists (DJ Chucky, Technorch) in Japan today from Distorted and up.

I can also supply components (console and games and controllers) if need be. I'll be keeping an eye out here.

Man, I honestly love the older styles as much as the more recent ones, if not more. I am a huge fan of 6th and 3rd, as much as I am for modern greats like 9th, 10th and DistorteD.

edit: some good info on TV lag here: http://www.fubarduck.com/hdtv-lag-faq/
should answer most questions :>

for a good challenge... gambol [another] on a laggy HDTV! :P

edit: my friend Todd pretty much has what I have, so if you need yet another setup, count his stuff in. That is, assuming we can both make it (though, we probably will go under any circumstance )

Also, in the event that neither of these guys are available, I've got a legit J-PS2 (with component) and 1 good J-KOC + US keys that can be used. I'll need to borrow a game though, unless you guys are OK with playing HD Backups for the time being. I don't work weekends or nights or go to school. I'm only working when PZ is closed. 8)

I think we should only be playing Happy Sky or Distorted in the event of doing a preview of it though, even IIDXRED and below look outdated compared to what DJ Troopers would be bringing to the table.

I could bring my computer if anyone would be interested... let's just say I might or might not have something more current than IIDX13. Don't ask how or why. Only problem is that is very unresponsive if you play with more than one controller... Other than that timing is flawless and I think my GPU has a hook up for a TV.

I dunno, I think it'd probably be a bad idea to openly pirate something like that in a public setting. I know certain communities aren't fond of word going around about that kind of thing, as well.

Not to mention, if we're running DistorteD CS as our tournament, we wouldn't want one style in the mix with inherently different timing.

Yeah, even though that "certain community" banned me after I put nearly 850 hours of seeding in. I certainly don't respect them any longer, but it would be wrong not to respect other Texan players. So... would we bring our own TV or use the one at PZ? Someone needs to test it one day to make sure there isn't serious lag...

Ouch, sorry to hear that It's not even really the community itself that the rule's in place for, it's to keep Konami from getting pissed.

Anyway.

My TV literally weighs more than I do, so that's not an option for me. I think that before we plan on bringing TVs we should hear what Emotiongear has to say on the subject. PS2s and games are nothing to scoff at for the most part, but TVs are a pain to lug around and dismantle/re-hookup. Maybe he has an idea up his sleeve.

Projectors maybe? IIRC, PZ has at least one, and a lot of them don't lag (of course we'd need to make sure first). Plus it'd be a big enough display to spectate. And they aren't a pain to lug around. Just an idea. If they wouldn't be used as a primary display, they could still be used to project a huge image of IIDX for people to watch. People in the arcade would come over to it and watch, talk among themselves, ask questions, etc. Could be good for hype.

yeah, keep the "PC versions" and said communities out of it. It's a lot more wasted effort (doing all of the timing and etc for it.) I know we're all apart of said community, but this isn't the place to discuss it.

On top of that, the PS2 versions are already set up for timing and lag issues.
